I would agree with you that there is a definite distinction between the Twelve and other apostles. But of course we have a problem - it's not just the twelve. It's Paul and the Twelve!

I think the difference is that THE Apostles were witnesses of the Resurrection but apostles today are gifts of the ascended Christ.

Just my thoughts! But yes - other than that I too disagree with most things MacArthur!

Thanks again!Dan Bowenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15661120561123767936noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13792024.post-81479304044110422162007-08-20T17:44:00.000+01:002007-08-20T17:44:00.000+01:00As a charismatic I do agree with MacArthur on his ...As a charismatic I do agree with MacArthur on his take on the Apostles - it just seems to me, on a cursory reading the Scriptures, that THE APOSTLES are quite different than 'apostles', as far as the extent and nature of their gifting is concerned. I guess I - along with MacArthur - question (that is to say, I've found no argument that has swayed me otherwise) that the 'office' of Apostle is still functioning, though I don't doubt that there is a 'little A' apostolic gifts available through God's Spirit to all believers as He sees fit to bestow it.

Otherwise, I think I pretty much disagree with nearly all things 'MacArthur' ;-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13792024.post-36108971143012103162007-08-20T17:38:00.000+01:002007-08-20T17:38:00.000+01:00I'm impressed you took the time to read and buy th...I'm impressed you took the time to read and buy these commentaries. I obviously haven't read them but if these comments and quotes are accurate then it seems clear to me that MacArthur is guilty of isogesis - of reading his experience into the Word of God. I'm sick and tired of being accused of being a charismatic and reading into the Word what I want - or even worse doing what I want and ignoring the Word. I think it's about time cessationists like MacArthur woke up and realised taht we are taking the Word seriously and they don't have the sole claim to the Word of God anymore.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13792024.post-90600512873960488022007-08-20T16:46:00.000+01:002007-08-20T16:46:00.000+01:00One thing I forgot to say.
