Thirsty? There is NO Other Stream ...

Apologies for the couple of days quietness - I have been busy with various meetings at work trying to sort out the allegations that I am facing along with doing night shifts. I thought disaster had struck last night! I forgot my IPOD with my collection of Rob Rufus sermons and I also forgot any Christian books! So when the children were all settled safely to bed, I felt I was at a bit of a loss until my eyes fell on the "Chronicles of Narnia" on the bookshelf and I decided to read "The Silver Chair" - one I haven't read for years. I did and was startled to hear God speaking quite audibly when I read a particular passage.

Here it is:

“Are you not thirsty?” said the Lion.

“I’m dying of thirst”, said Jill.

“May I - could I - would you mind going away while I do?”, said Jill.

The Lion answered this only by a look and a very low growl. And as Jill gazed at its motionless bulk, she realized that she might as well have asked the while montain to move aside for her convenience.

The delicious rippling noise of the stream was driving her nearly frantic.

“Will you promise not to - do anything to me, if I do come?”, said Jill.

“I make no promise”, said the Lion.

Jill was so thirsty now that, without noticing it, she had come a step nearer.

“Do you eat girls?”, she said.

“I have swallowed up girls and boys, women and men, knigs and emperors, cities and realms”, said the Lion. It didn’t say this as if it were boasting, nor as if it were sorry, nor as if it were angry. It just said it.

“I daren’t come and drink”, said Jill.

“Then you will die of thirst”, said the Lion.

“Oh dear!”, said Jill, coming another step nearer. “I suppose I must go and look for another stream then.”

“There is no other stream”, said the Lion.

John 7:37-38: "Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'"

"So much of the problems in the world and My Church stem from a thirst that they know nothing about. Heartache? Misery? Loneliness? Mental health problems? Fear? Hopelessness? All these would be met by a quenching of a never-ending thirst. Yet so many throughout the ages have mistaken that thirst and thought they could meet in at other streams. They have tried the stream of psychology, the stream of physiology, they have tried the stream of intelligence and academics, they have tried the stream of the New Age and counterfeit power.

Yet the thirst continues and 2,000 years after My Son walked this planet, still My people have not learnt the source - the satisfaction of coming to Me and finding eternal satisfaction in drinking from the stream before I sit. But you must come to ME. I will not move. I will not negotiate. I will not allow tributaries that are detach from the Living life flow. Come to ME. I make no promises about what will happen when you come and drink of My Spirit. Your life will change. You will find yourself commissioned in ways that you never dreamt of before. My one promise is that nothing will remain the same.

So many of My people have dared not come and drink for they have been in the world and become of the world. And they have died of thirst for their fear overcame their thirst. Yet I urge you this day to allow your thirst to overcome your fears. There IS no other stream of living water that will conquer your thirst for reality, for My Presence. There IS no other stream of living water that will flow through you and out to meet the lost, the nations. There IS no other way that I have chosen to flood and cover and fill the earth with My glory than this.

So come to Me and drink. Calvary is complete and done. Resurrection is achieved. I am glorified. I am seated. I am reigning and I have poured out My Spirit in a never-ending flow that will never cease until prophecy is fulfilled and all flesh receive".

What an awesome picture!! So alive, even re-reading the extract from The Silver Chair, we have to come to Him!! He is not just going to give us a nice cosy spiritual experience and leave us to go on our way unchanged. He is the awesome God who has swallowed empires!!! The King of Kings and Lord of Lords!!! We have to come to Him.

And yet - the water itself is so amazing. I haven't got The Silver Chair to hand, but from memory Jill finds that the water is the most amazing, thirst-quenching water.

And what an awesome word. "There is no other stream..." Wow, wow!! After a few weeks of really sensing only tiny glimpses of His glory, this afternoon I have started seeing again that heaven is open, the work is done!! And this word is the crowning glory on an afternoon of restoration. Thank you for posting!!

Dan - thanks for this so much! I have to say in recent weeks there has been a deeper desperation, a greater thirst and it seems unquenchable and then you experience that drinking - that awesome moment and the exhilaration runs and then you realise that you are addicted and the cry goes out 'I can't go on without Him....' I am so hungry, so thirsty, so desperate - there is no other stream, none other will satisfy cos noone else compares to Him!!!!! Thanks for fuelling the thirst with this post! Nick x

Wow...that's not just an idea...I feel the impact on you.
I've realised more and more that what we are reading in the gospels is a special series of impacts like this on, particularly a bunch of 12 guys...the sum total of which was enough to add anointing to, wind them up, point them in the direction of the door and....Look out world!!!
=============================
River Camp was more, much more than I could ever have expected. No joke...it's impact was not far short of 1976 Dales. i really had no idea how cutting edge it was. It is run by a subsection of elim. But apparently not one from head office ever goes!! Mark Stibbe of Chorleywood was one of the closest to what I am saying...and he is English and he is Anglican!!!!Is that possible? Joy said Rob Rufus was preaching on all the chapters of Romans...I'd love to hear him. But until last week anyway, I would say Mark Stibbe is Rob Rufus with Romans 6 and 7 included. He also has tremendous impartation and revelation on the Father, just as Rob does.Still processing all that happened!!

Interesting.

In Jeremiah it talks about the people forsaking the snow waters of Lebanon (the fresh water that came off from Mount Hermon) to go to strange, alien waters.

The blessing of God is symbolised by the provision of water and rain.

Eutychus who is preparing for rain

Straight off rsv's blog :I am not a physical being having a spiritual experience; I am a spiritual being having a physical experience. The cross will have its way in me and I'm resting in that.
what do you think? Sounds like Rob

An out-and-out blessing, that is what this post is. Makes me want to break out the book and read it. My kids have read that particular book in the series, but I don't think I have.

Yes, I am so, so thirsty these days.

Dan, I pray and hold hope that all things are working for your good, and that issues on your job are being resolved, and that you are finding strength for the battle, and joy in the journey.
